I recently purchased two PatternMaster programs, Boutique and Curves, so that I can make clothing for myself and my (teen) children. I have some sewing experience, though I am by no means an expert, and am interested in expanding this skill.
The software is not cheap but considering how much clothing costs I feel it will not take long to pay for itself, even taking the cost of fabric and supplies into account. It seems to be designed with a seamstress or tailor's shop in mind, with the ability to save client measurement charts and patterns for easy organization.
Guide sheets are clear and easy to follow even for a beginner, with illustrations and tips.
Patterns are printed on standard printer paper, so they're accessible to home/hobby sewists. Trimming & taping them together is a bit of a pain, but works well in the end.
Wild Ginger offers two of its programs free of charge so you can see how they work and make some small things to test usability.
