In the late 1980’s, a small one-man recruitment agency now known as MACRO Recruitment, started investing in technology to make the searching and selecting of staff more efficient. In those days, employers and recruiters posted an advert in the weekly newspaper. Two or three days later applicants started arriving via the fax and snail mail. Printed CV’s were passed from one recruiter’s desk to another – each desk the pile would get smaller and smaller. Australia’s first job board was still in its pilot stage.

Most agencies thought it was a passing fad. Recruitment software at the time was running on green screens. Recruitment was slow, of limited reach and expensive.MACRO’s investment in technology gave it the edge on speed to market and reach.
